96: Lightstreams with Michael Smolenksi

Michael is the Founder and CEO of Lightstreams, a blockchain protocol for greater dApp speed and privacy.

He takes issue with the hype surrounding blockchain technology as a one-size-fits-all approach, and believes that we should view distributed ledgers as part of a suite of complementary technologies that can be used to usher in the advent of a decentralized internet. Central to this belief is the need for a combination of distributed off-chain storage, to enable cheap storage of files and privacy that is otherwise non-existent on a public ledger.

The goal of Project Aiur is to liberate researchers and academics from a publishing system of misaligned incentives that encourages them to exaggerate facts and omit assumptions as they are told to produce quantity of research over quality. As it stands such practices are deemed acceptable in an industry that lacks accountability and is driven solely by profit rather than a commitment to the betterment of scientific progress.

exotic assets such as domain names (perhaps the only economist who covered the short domain mania of 2015-2016) and, of course, crypto. http://oneminuteeconomics.com/

  • The reality of a adding Quantum resistance to existing blockchains. (Hint: It is easier to implement changes in the initial codebase than to add them later.)

  • We don’t need (should not) to wait for Quantum Supremacy

  • A single actor could disrupt the cryptocurrency economy at any time

  • Companies are making a lot of public progress / while Government programs have likely made more progress than they advertise

  • Upgrading in cryptocurrency is not easy. BTC is an example of political struggles

  • The future quantum resistant ledger

83: Minds - The Crypto Social Network with Bill Ottman

Minds is an open-source social media platform that puts individual users first. The world needs a top social network to be free, open source, decentralized, encrypted, reward-based and powered by the people.

Minds has all the same capabilities as other social media platforms. However we’ll hear from Bill why he would prefer to contrast with Facebook rather than compare.

The new ecosystem has extensive privacy features, including a non-tracking ad network, encrypted messenger, and an anonymity option.  Its blockchain offers a crypto wallet, tipping for creators, a daily pool of tokens granted to users who contribute the most to the network, and peer-to-peer advertising.

Additionally we hear how Minds users are starting to drop the big F…in your Face(book) Zuck!

In addition Minds offers many more features, including monetization.

For example users can earn points for all their activities and can either sell or use those points to boost posts. Creators can set tiers of rewards with corresponding token amounts. If supporters choose to send funds on a monthly recurring basis they can access exclusive content (behind paywall) and other custom rewards that creators choose. Creators can be paid directly through their channel or through each piece of specific content. Content creators will also be able to earn tokens through our rewards system for their contributions to the network, which include receiving votes, comments, shares, gaining subscribers and referring new users.

72: Constellation CTO Wyatt Meldman-Floch and Zac Russell

Scalability is likely that the biggest obstacle to mainstream adoption of decentralized ledgers. Last week, a team of ex-blockchain developers emerged from stealth mode with a unique solution: remove the block from the blockchain.

Enter Constellation. We are joined today by CTO Wyatt Meldman-Floch and Zac Russell the Head of Marketing.

This team knows the problems of legacy blockchain protocols first hand. Upon experiencing the congestion of the Ethereum blockchain during a previous attempt to build a DApp, they pivoted to build, from the ground up, a platform protocol that relies on a horizontally scalable directed acyclic graph (DAG).

Not only does the Constellation team predict the realization of a transaction throughput several thousand times faster than most blockchains, but they believe they can achieve such speeds without the use of the plutocratic proof-of-stake mechanisms.

Visit Constellationlabs.io where you can learn more about the following:

  • Why scalability is the key to mainstream adoption of decentralized ledgers

  • The reasons why legacy blockchain networks will not be able to upgrade sufficiently

  • The dangers of blockchain plutocracy and the need to make nodes accessible to the layman

67: Consentual Data with Insights Network CEO Brian Gallagher

As we learn how our data is manipulated by Facebook and their thousands of clients, a Blockchain solution emerges thanks to Brian Gallagher's Insights Network which is launching their app this week. The app allows users to get rewarded in cryptocurrency (INSTAR, Insights' token) for sharing their personal data for things like surveys, instead of it being harvested and sold without their knowledge. With the Facebook data/Cambridge Analytica story and the upcoming GDPR in Europe, the issue of data protection is front and center. Insights Network seeks to give consumers the ability to control and be rewarded for their data.

49: New Kids on the Blockchain(Show)

Sarah imagines there's no countries whilst Mark boldly goes where no-one (apart from many thousands of Trekkers) has gone before and Ian takes on Brum and 'Bama and we round up the Blockchain events heading to your town (if you live in Dublin, Barcelona, London or Orlando) in the next two weeks.
We wish we were sponsored by Guinness.

And we're "Hangin' Tough" as we launch our bid to win Blockchain's Got Talent NKOTB style.

48: Blockchain Live 2017, Surviving the Cryptogeddon

We present the past month’s price fluctuation in CryptoCurrencies and the Chinese blockchain blockade in the Queen’s English for y’all as the frightfully British Blokechain Boys are back to keep Ethan company.

Mark calls in from #BlockchainLive 2017 @ The Brewery (some beers may have been harmed in the making of this podcast) in London, and tells about his interest in the Ties.Network Token Generation Event this week.

Ian joins us from his Hurricane-proof bunker in Orlando, keeping it real and relevant.

Alongside the Cryptogeddon lowdown, we discuss the IOTA Tangle, Golem and EOS, and how they are proposing to handle some of the issues and challenges with adopting Blockchain technology in the mainstream real-world.

24: Paul Puey from Airbitz

Paul Puey cofounded Airbitz in Jan 2014 with the mission of creating a platform to secure bitcoin and digital assets in not just an easy but also familiar way that is usable to the masses that don't want to deal with the complexity of encryption, backup, or multi-word passphrases. They aim to accomplish this while retaining bitcoin's core advantages of autonomy, privacy, and decentralization.

Steve fouled up recording his end of the interview with Airbitz CEO Paul. So we did the best we could to reconstruct the interview.

The first half of the frankenstein episode reconstruction was done with the three of us. And then for the second half it's just steve and Paul

Paul has really gone out of his way to add value to the blockchain space we think that even with an episode that isn't our best it's still well worth the listen.
